My parents are time share owners with Sheraton Vistana so they were able to use their week vacation at a Breezy Point condo. where we joined them for the long Memorial Day weekend. Settled in the heart of Minnesota, the Brainerd, Baxter, and Pequot Lakes area is home to countless lakes and activities offering a wide variety of things to do.
While our traveling style isn’t usually large resorts, it was overall a good experience. Breezy Point is a HUGE resort with condos, golfing, restaurants, entertainment, shops, a spa, and more.
Even though my parents had requested a lake view room, we were assigned to a condo overlooking the golf course. At least we were on hole 18 so the golfers that came through had just enough to drink to become our favorite source of entertainment.
Boats and pontoons were available for rent, and kayaks and canoes were free for guests of the resort. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great but there were a few glimpses of the sun that allowed us to do some shore fishing.
Because of the poor weather, we spent the weekend exploring the area’s shopping and dining scene. I had been to Brainerd several times in the past but the area has really grown since then, now offering several different breweries and many local restaurants.
We stopped at at 371 Diner in Baxter and were impressed at the nostalgic atmosphere and HUGE meal portions. Each person in our party of 6 was able to easily have two meals from their one lunch entree.
There are a lot of fun things for families to do outside of the lakes like go carts, mini golf, shopping, water slides, ice skating, and much more. You wouldn’t run out of fun things to do, and all of the activities are affordable. Plus, the area offers a lot of free activities like hiking trails and fire towers you can climb for phenomenal views.
My favorite thing to do in the lakes area of Minnesota is take pictures with any Paul Bunyan statue we can find. They pop up everywhere so you should always be on the lookout for the plaid man and his pal Babe the Blue Ox. If you’re ever in Brainerd you can’t miss stopping at Paul Bunyan land and meeting the big guy himself – he even talks to you! We missed out on him during this trip but found a different statue.
