The snorkeling in Costa Rica could rival any other major snorkeling destinations in the world. The crystal clear, pristine waters make it easy to join the underwater world and swim surrounded by colorful fish.
We drove to meet our guide at a beach close to Dominical. We met a Tico and his daughter who took us out of their boat for a full day adventure.
After cutting through the waves and the water, we reached our first snorkeling spot. After gearing up, we jumped in and were not disappointed by the variety of different fish and underwater life we were able to see. After a what seemed like 5 minutes, but was more like 30, we climbed back aboard to race off to the next destination.
As the boat continued on, we soon spotted dolphins keeping pace right along side of the boat. It started with one fin popping out of the water and turned into four jumping alongside. Cliffs and palm trees lined the background, making for quite the sight.
Stopping for lunch on an island, we were treated to a traditional Costa Rican meal complete with the freshest pineapple you could ever have.
Snorkeling in Costa Rica was so phenomenal that I would have done it day after day if we had time in our schedule. The Dominical area is new to the tourism industry, which is one of the reasons why the snorkeling is some of the best in the world. Additionally, the people and government of the country truly treasure their natural resources and protect the land and the sea. In fact, over 26 percent of the country is protected for conservation.
It’s refreshing to know there is a group of people so passionate about protecting Mother Earth and all she provides to us.
